Research is closely linked to teaching - instructional subjects and topics reflect the results of research directed towards developing solutions to authentic translation and interpreting problems such as

  • systematizing decision-making in the translation process (general translation theory and methodology) and the interplay of essential translation parameters (translation purpose, target-culture recipient type and translational norm).
  • operationalizing concepts like coherence, information structure (theme-rheme-structuring) and isotopies in their relevance for translation.
  • developing solutions for translating and interpreting culture in texts and discourse (culture and translation), especially further developing and testing the concept of cultural constellations as the basis of a rule-governed procedure for identifying and translating (holistic) cultural manifestations and patterns in texts.
  • further developing the concepts of contaminated terms in context (text terminology) and the constitution of contrastive knowledge systems in their textual manifestations (concretizations), and interculturally varying discourse preferences.
  • further investigating procedures for translation and interpreting quality assessment (evaluating translation and interpreting results.)
  • identifying research questions and developing solutions within multidimensional translation (MuTra) (subtitling, audio description, written interpretation, theater and musical translation).
